SIMPLE WAYS TO BE HAPPY
It does not take much to be happy. The desire to be happy is the foremost thing that needs to be kept in mind before probing for happiness. It is human tendency to look for ways to feel miserable and then blame family and close friends for our mental or emotional unhappiness. A stage comes in everyone’s life when people find themselves surrounded by misfortune, uneasy circumstances, deprivation from love, unwanted happenings which prove to be a determining or modifying factor in the wrong decisions a person makes or some factors which lead a lasting impact on a person’s life making him look at or perceive things in a negative connotation.
Frankly speaking, it does not take much to be happy and every person is responsible for his or her relationship with happiness. It may seem to be an idealist point of view, but when looked at the deepest meaning of happiness, it can be felt as anything which gives us immense satisfaction. What it takes to be happy and satisfied with what we have instead of dreaming to be someone else depends from person to person.
Happiness need not be a long term ambition; it can be a short term goal which needs to be fulfilled. Achievement of short term goals will ultimately lead to fulfillment of long term strategies or goals.
Although, the meaning of happiness may vary from one individual to the other, there are some basic tenets which everyone can follow to be happy.
The first tenet or doctrine or principle to be happy is to identify as to what causes us misery. Anything that causes misery has its deep roots in negativity. So Disallow any negative feeling in your mind;
The second tenet which a person can follow is Not to allow him or herself to be alone. To allow yourself to be a part of society is necessary. All people around us need not make us happy. There will be many people who would want to pull us down, so the best way would be to identify them and avoid them;
A person can have only two goals in life: either to pull someone down or to push oneself up and further. So the third tenet to be happy is to Avoid people who want to pull you down;
One of the most effective ways to better our relationship with happiness is to look for people who want to bring about a change or to surround ourselves with people who want to make a difference. Initially, it may seem to be daunting but connecting with wonderful people is effortless. So, the fourth tenet to be happy is To be in the company of people who can make one happy;
One common reason for unhappiness is the inability to befriend or accept failure as part of the process. But what people fail to realize is that failure is necessary. Without failure, how would someone realize the worth of success. Failure also helps in realizing as to where our shortcomings lie. It is important to realize that failure does not reflect bad luck. Rather, it is an opportunity to move ahead with better and more focused preparation. So, here we have the fifth tenet of happiness – Befriend failure;
Money is important to bring in means which satisfy our needs. But human beings do not concentrate only on needs. After needs are fulfilled, every person pursues to satisfy his wants and money does exactly that. It is important, rather essential to earn money while we are in the most capable physical and emotional state so that we do not have to rely on others during our not so good days. But how much money to be earned depends on how money we require for now and later. Every person should calculate his requirements and focus on earning that amount so that poverty does not come in the way of happiness. We have the sixth tenet of happiness – Earn enough money for oneself and family;
Variety is the spice of life, but change is necessary for variety. A person must attempt to bring about a change in oneself by doing away with the bad habits. Initially, it may be hard to convince oneself but definitely it is not unmanageable to do away with the recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behavior which we call bad. So, from here we have the seventh tenet of happiness – Plug in all those situations which causes us to repeat our bad habits;
People are often obsessed with their looks. What others think of them become absolutely essential for them to know. This in turn leads to depression, people end up suffering from inferiority complex, feeling miserable and unable to face society. But people fail to realize that it is more necessary to feel good rather than look good for other people. So the eighth tenet which comes to mind – It is none of my business to know what other people think of me;
As I come to an end thinking of ways which can make a person happy is nevertheless, the most important value in life is avoid procrastination. It is an idle value which causes harm when overdone, so the ninth and final tenet is Avoid procrastination.
There is no dearth of ways to feel happy, the most important requirement is to be at peace with oneself. Peace does bring happiness, and it is the ultimate feeling of bliss which brings a smile to one’s face.
