Is India as secure as the U.S.A.?

Yet another scandal rocked the U.S. government taking into its fold the resignation of David Petraeus, who resigned as head of the CIA on Friday after admitting an extramarital affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell. News of his illicit relationship surfaced when Broadwell sent out extremely outrageous e-mails to another woman whom she considered to be her rival in love with Petraeus. Petraeus was quick to resign since adultery is considered a crime under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Now before as Indians since we are quick to raise fingers on other people’s personal conduct, what remains to be seen is whether we are as concerned about our security as the Western world. Where in countries like U.S. and U.K., e-mails are scanned and telephone conversations are tapped regardless of the position a person may be enjoying, do we see the same facility in India? Economists claim that India has what it takes to a super power, but are we ready for it yet? This may though seem to be a daunting question; the answer is still to be searched for, looked for, and yet the question would remain unanswered. Not because that we Indians do not have the potential, but because we do not care. We do not care about what happens around us because we are so merged in ourselves. We look upon the Third World to be like them, to imitate them but we have yet to learn a lot from them especially matters, which concern our national security. Hopefully, the day will come when Indians would realize that voting is not only a right but more of a moral responsibility to bring the capable people to the fore and that voting as a right if exercised properly would do a lot in bringing our country from the shambles which our respected ministers have led it into. I hope to see that day when the polling day would not be regarded as a mere source of holiday for us but a day which reminds us of our responsibility that we are yet to give a lot to our country in lieu of what we enjoy from her.
